This is a Consorzio Baicr (Library Archive and Cultural Institute Consortium of Rome) project produced with the support of the Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri and the Agenzia romana per la preparazione del giubileo. It proposes to sort the scattered collection of facts and episodes linked to the roman jubilees into a coherent institutional, social and economic fabric of information. The data bank aims to place each single jubilee event within a precise context that not only takes the observer further than the fascination of each single anecdote, but also travels beyond the devotional dimension, too. The project has attempted to broaden the thematic framework, while keeping the documentary sources from the archive institutes of Rome as compact as possible.

Present day awareness opens up the way to new interests and transforms old questions and doubts. This immensely rich and deep cultural, historical and religious tradition can now be explored through the questions of today.

The thematic framework provides a sort of historical-social lexicon and carefully chosen pictures give a two-sided iconographic accompaniment: on the one hand the images illustrate the various jubilee "episodes", and on the other they provide the basis to an integrated presentation that combines artistic, religious and documentary facts.
